Jesus walked this earth, seeking to save the lost and ministering to people at their point of need. One evening, a religionist came to Jesus. His name was Nicodemus. He had heard Jesus teach and witnessed the miracles of Jesus. No doubt, the Spirit of God is drawing this man to Jesus. Nicodemus tells Jesus, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
"What do you mean?" exclaimed Nicodemus. "How can an old man go back into his mother's womb and be born again?"
Jesus replied, "I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit (John 3:2-5 NLT)."
Nicodemus knew, and we also know, that a physical re-birth is impossible. The good news that Jesus came to tell us is that we can begin life all over again. We can have a new starting point, a second chance. This is called the new birth. We can be born of God. Each true follower of Jesus is “born of water and the Spirit.”
Confessing Jesus as Lord, sharing with him in his death, burial, and resurrection through water baptism, and being cleansed and filled with the Holy Spirit gives us a new life. We put our old life behind us. The old life we had is gone. We die to it. It is in the past.
Through the Holy Spirit, we become new creatures in Jesus. It is a fresh start. It is a new beginning. Life begins again. This time, our new life happens because of the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit. From this point forward, the Holy Spirit lives within us, empowering us to live for Jesus and continue his point-of-need ministry.
Friend, do you want a new life? Do you want a second chance? Do you want to start all over again? Do you need a reset in your life? If so, follow Jesus. It’s a life-changing journey. The transformation that comes from the Holy Spirit living in you is supernatural. You will never be the same again. Follow Jesus today and know that the best in your life is yet to come!
